Every day we make choices, every choice that we make is determining what life we are going to be have, not only for today, but also for tomorrow. So what life are you choosing?
Are you choosing you? The you that you want to be? Or are you caught up in the busyness of daily life, while the days, weeks, months and years are flying by?
What is your purpose?
What is your reason for being? What gets you out of bed in the morning? We hope it is not our weekly wage, but is it? Or do you wake up each morning feeling inspired to start the day? Are you spending your time doing something that makes you feel alive? Something that gives your life meaning? Something that gives you joy?
Where are you going financially?
So where are you at financially and where are you going? If you feel like you are treading water, then most likely you are. After you know how you want to spending your life, how do you create a plan to afford that? We often hear follow your passion, which is all well and good (and we really do need to!), but purpose and passion, without a plan, can create short and long term damage to your financial independence.
So what do you want out of life and how are you going to build the personal wealth that’s going to enable you to do that? Time is your greatest friend (along with compound interest) and it can also be your worst enemy.
The sooner you start, the smaller the changes needed to enable you to live the life that you want not only for today but also for tomorrow.
The need for Clarity
The first thing we need to do is get clarity around our purpose, around that vision (then comes clarity, with our goals and life and financial plan, but more on that later). What is it that you want to do? How do you want to be spending your time. What is your purpose? What is your vision? What brings meaning to your world? This is not something we are born with and often comes through life experience or a particular event, in hindsight it is sometimes obvious. Everything I have done in my life has led me to this point.
